The brief
BuildBros are a Brisbane renovation builder doing $80k–$400k kitchens, bathrooms and full-home jobs — but the digital storefront made them look like a $5k handyman.
The problem
Most builder websites are the same Wix or Squarespace template with stock photos, a phone number and a contact form. No process, no pricing posture, no project pages, nothing to separate one builder from the next when a homeowner is shortlisting three quotes.
How we approached it.
- 01
Built on Next.js 16 App Router — every page prerendered to static HTML for instant loads
- 02
Editorial homepage that leads with 'Your home, made.' and the four-step transparent process (Brief → Scope → Build → Handover)
- 03
Real project pages — Strathburn St, Fulica St, Tingatel St — with before/after imagery, scope, timeline and a written client quote
- 04
Dedicated Bathrooms service page so the highest-intent renovation search has somewhere to land
- 05
Trust signals front and centre: QBCC licence number, ABN, public liability + workers comp, 120+ renovations delivered, 100% on-time handovers
- 06
AVIF/WebP image pipeline via next/image, inline critical CSS, long-cache immutable headers — passes Lighthouse on a mid-range Android

What changed on the site — and why it converts.
Risks a generic builder template was creating
What the typical Wix/Squarespace tradie site was costing BuildBros every week it stayed up.
- No project pages — homeowners shortlisting three quotes had nothing to compare against
- No licence, ABN or insurance visible — the exact signals that separate a real builder from a cowboy
- Generic stock photos — the work spoke for nobody, because the work wasn't on the page
- No service-specific landing pages — every 'bathroom renovation Brisbane' search dropped the user on the homepage and made them dig
- Slow mobile load with carousel widgets and theme bloat — the most expensive lead source (mobile search) bouncing on contact
- No structured pricing or process — homeowners couldn't tell whether BuildBros were a $5k handyman or a $300k builder
What this means for the business
Every change is tied to a commercial outcome — winning more of the shortlist, closing more of the quotes.
- Editorial photography + named project pages → the builder gets shortlisted on craft, not on who has the cheapest hourly rate
- Bathrooms service page → ranks for 'bathroom renovation Brisbane' on its own, where the highest-margin enquiries live
- QBCC, ABN, insurance and 120+ renovations visible above the fold → trust signals do the convincing before the first call
- Four-step transparent process (Brief → Scope → Build → Handover) → kills the 'will they ghost me?' fear that loses deals to bigger firms
- Static prerender + AVIF imagery → instant mobile loads, better Google rankings, no carousel widgets dragging the page down
- One project manager start-to-finish, fixed-price quotes, no variations without written approval — the operational pitch finally has a page to land on
